About

Klosterfelde Edition was founded in 1989 by Helga Maria Klosterfelde.

Originally established to raise funds in support of a successful initiative to turn Hamburg’s Deichtorhallen into a site for contemporary art, the production of editions and multiples has been at the heart of the gallery’s work ever since.

The company’s first premises were on Fleetinsel, Hamburg, where the gallery showcased both unique works and editions, collaborating with a wide range of established and emerging artists. In 2006 the gallery opened a showroom on Linienstraße in Berlin before taking up residence in its current home, a former stationery shop on Potsdamer Straße in 2009. The move to Potsdamer Straße coincided with Alfons Klosterfelde assuming directorship of the family business.

Since its inception Klosterfelde Edition has regularly participated in international art fairs such as Art Basel, Gallery Weekend Berlin and Art Cologne; and made successful contributions to private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, Baltimore Museum of Art, Princeton University, Museum Ludwig and the Berlinische Galerie.

Now in its fourth decade the gallery continues to work hand in hand with an increasingly diverse list of artists to create limited editions and multiples in a variety of mediums; always working with the finest materials and fabricators to further enrich the short but significant history of this most democratic of art forms.
