Depicting decorative or childlike patterns, Lily van der Stokker pushes established ideas of art on its verge. As decor, or scribbles are usually looked at as lower cultural products, Stokker questions in her work not only the value of art, but also plays „ping pong“ with the concepts of the “beautiful” and the “ugly”. In a brutal and unashamed simplicity, the artworks tackle everyday subjects, such as family, love, relationships, or the “nice”. Therefore she has become increasingly important for the discourse of post-feminist practice. The banner is a representation of Stokker´s often used, with furniture combined murals.
